National Merit - Commended Students
"Approximately 34,000 Commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2026 competition by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource."

National Merit - Semifinalist Student
"Approximately 16,000 students have qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition to earn scholarship awards. Over 1.3 million juniors participated in the 2026 competition by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state."
