Student Safety Task Force

In alignment with our Strategic Plan Pillar 2 (Student Safety and Wellness), Priority 1 (Safe Learning Environments), Haslett Public Schools launched a community-driven effort during the 2025-26 school year to strengthen safety across all district schools.

This initiative reflects our commitment to ongoing improvement and meaningful family partnership in ensuring safe learning environments for every student. This page preserves that work and its results.

Initiative Update

The Student Safety Task Force completed its 2025-26 charge. This page remains as a record of that work. Going forward, student safety initiatives are carried forward through the district's Community Leadership Team, continuing the same collaborative, family-partnership approach.

Our Approach

We engaged the community through a three-level approach.

  1. District-wide survey. Families, staff, and community members provided input on safety concerns, current measures, and priorities, establishing baseline data and identifying trends.
  2. Individual interviews and focus groups. One-on-one and small group sessions with diverse representatives explored survey findings, added context, and generated solution ideas for task force consideration. This component was postponed and will be carried forward through the Community Leadership Team.
  3. Student Safety Task Force analysis. A representative task force of staff, families, emergency responders, and mental health professionals reviewed all findings and current research to develop actionable recommendations.

Where This Work Continues

The Student Safety Task Force completed its initial 2025-26 cycle. Acting on its recommendations, along with future student-safety initiatives, now moves forward through the district's Community Leadership Team. That team carries the same collaborative, family-partnership approach into the work ahead, ensuring safety remains a shared, ongoing priority rather than a one-time effort.
