Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

In our elementary buildings, we prioritize a strong academic foundation. We use a multi-layered approach to ensure every child masters the core skills of reading and mathematics.

• Tier 1 (Universal): All students receive high-quality, research-based core instruction in their general education classroom. We use regular screenings to monitor progress and adjust teaching in real-time.
• Tier 2 (Targeted): For students needing extra support on specific skills, we provide supplemental small-group instruction. These interventions are designed to close gaps quickly while keeping students on track with their peers.
• Tier 3 (Intensive): When data shows a student needs more significant support, we design individualized, intensive interventions tailored to their unique learning profile.
  
  Extended Learning: Programs like summer learning provide additional opportunities for students to solidify their skills outside the standard school year.

In the middle school years, our MTSS framework supports students as they navigate increased academic independence. We focus on core academic reinforcement and the development of Adaptive Mindsets to help students thrive in a departmentalized setting.

• Tier 1: High-Quality Universal Instruction - All students receive rigorous, research-based instruction in the general education setting. Teachers utilize regular benchmark assessments three times per year to monitor growth and ensure our core curriculum is meeting the needs of at least 80% of our student population.
• Tier 2: Targeted Supplemental Support - For students who need extra help with specific skills, we provide targeted intervention strategies. These supports are designed to be flexible and are adjusted based on regular progress monitoring.
  Literacy: Small-group strategies focused on reading fluency, comprehension, and advanced vocabulary development.
  Mathematics: Supplemental reinforcement of core math concepts and computational fluency.
• Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Intervention - When data indicates a need for more significant support, we design intensive, individual interventions. These are highly focused sessions designed to address unique learning gaps and provide the Essential Life Skills necessary for academic resilience.
  
  Data-Driven Decision Making: Our instructional teams meet regularly to review student data, ensuring that every student is placed in the tier that best supports their current level of need.

At the high school level, our MTSS framework is designed to remove barriers to graduation and ensure every student is Ready to Shape Their Future. We focus on high-quality instruction paired with targeted supports that help students master complex content and develop resilient, adaptive mindsets.

In the general education setting, teachers use a variety of assessments and data-driven strategies to ensure core instruction is effective for the vast majority of our student population.
• Tier 2: Targeted Supplemental Support - For students who need additional time or different strategies to master specific course content, we provide targeted interventions. These are designed to be proactive and flexible.
  • Academic Reinforcement: Specialized support in literacy and mathematics to strengthen the Academic Foundation needed for upper-level coursework.
  • Strategic Monitoring: Regular check-ins on academic progress, attendance, and engagement to identify and support students early.
  • Structured Success Plans: Targeted behavioral or attendance contracts designed to build accountability and organizational life skills.
• Tier 3: Intensive Individualized Intervention - For students facing significant challenges, we provide intensive, individualized support. This level of intervention is tailored to the unique needs of the student and may include:
  • Customized Learning Paths: Highly focused instruction to address specific learning gaps or credit recovery needs.
  • Individualized Behavior Plans: Collaborative support systems designed to foster social-emotional wellness and classroom success.
  • Progress Monitoring: Frequent data collection to ensure the intensity of support matches the student's needs as they work toward graduation.
